New Retail- Almost Famous Granola

Koru Village is now carrying locally, handmade Almost Famous granola. Check out their story below…

Hurricane Irene was bearing down on us and we had to evacuate fast! Lynn grabbed her wallet, car keys, random clothing…and her home-made granola. Potato chips and sugar snacks didnt make the cut. When the power in our motel quit for 3 plus days, Amy, Grace and Lynn huddled in the sweltering heat for an update: How were we to feed a baby, three dogs and assorted husbands? Our survival Staple became Lynn’s granola.

Yin Yoga Workshop

Explore inner space during a special two-hour Introduction to Yin Yoga at Koru Village on Sunday, May 20 from 3 to 5 p.m.  For most of us, our time on and off the mat can be energetic and outwardly focused.  A Yin practice cultivates a balance by complementing our yang world with a quieter, more meditative, physical yoga practice.  Settling into supported stretches, you move beyond muscles and have time to notice where your practice is taking you – physically and mentally.

Yin is not a restorative practice; the assumption is the practitioner is starting from
a healthy place. Those with some familiarity with hatha yoga might benefit from and enjoy the practice most.

The session will be led by Susan Wilkinson, RYT200.  Susan has studied Yin Yoga with Biff Mithoefer, creator of The Yin Yoga Kit and co-author of The Therapeutic Yoga Kit, and Ann Hunt of Nosara Institute and Evolve Yoga and Fitness.

The fee for the workshop is $25 and reservations are recommended. Contact Koru Village at info@koruvillage.com or 252-995-3125 or visit www.KoruVillage.com to learn more about this workshop, make reservations, or find out about yoga in Cape Hatteras.

Building The Beach Klub

On May 24 Koru Village will host a ribbon cutting for Cape Hatteras’ first oceanfront beach club and North Carolina’s first oceanfront theatre, The Beach Klub and PapaWack Theatre.

The ribbon cutting will be followed by an official Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours.

“What a great new addition to Dare County and to the Outer Banks! This facility will offer Hatteras Island a great location for community gatherings, live music, weddings, festivals and celebrations,” said Chamber Vice President of Public Relations Angie Brady-Daniels.

The Beach Klub will host its official Grand Opening on May 31, giving residents and guests a taste of what the facility has in store for summer.

“The Grand Opening will be a mini version of our weekly Avon Jamboree, offering North Carolina barbeque, drinks, live music by the Doerfel Family band and our house band,” said owner of Koru Village and The Beach Klub Joe Thompson.

Located beside the Avon Pier, the Beach Klub has undergone a massive renovation this winter with the addition of The PapaWack Theatre which was designed by Cahoon and Kasten Architects.

“After twenty-one years of practice Cahoon and Kasten has designed numerous Hatteras Island projects, but the Beach Klub’ Theatre stands out for two reasons.  It will be a bit of a landmark, a much needed major public event venue.  And it will also be an opportunity for our firm to contribute in a small way to the recovery and resurgence of Hatteras Island,” said Ben Cahoon of Cahoon and Kasten Architects.

The Beach Klub will be open for fitness programming in the morning and then it will transform into an exclusive club for members to enjoy throughout the day.

Maureen Sullivan who owns a vacation home in Avon called “Canary Sings” was one of the first homeowners to sign up for the Klub Koru Gold program and is anxiously awaiting The Beach Klub’s grand opening.

“I am so excited for my guests to have access to all of the Beach Klub’s amenities and I can’t wait to go to yoga by the beach at the Klub when I am down this summer,” said Sullivan.

In the evening, The Beach Klub and PapaWack Theatre will come to life for live music and a variety of events.

“The Beach Klub and PapaWack Theatre were built with the intention of creating a venue adorning a multitude of amenities that offer residents and visitors a one-of-a-kind experience,” said owner Joe Thompson.

For more information about The Beach Klub visit koruvillage.com or call 252 995 3125.

What They're Saying

“I always received professional service and felt that Koru was a pleasant surprise as far as professionalism and its modern approach compared to other island facilities. My hair stylist did an excellent job on my up-do for my wedding. I couldn’t have received better results if I went to an urban, high end salon. The compliments on my hair were plentiful. You do not need to pay your off island hair stylist for your wedding hair, go to Koru!”
